The highly anticipated new season has arrived! And what a way to kick it off, with a local derby. After the heart ache of the last game of the season (I won't dwell too much on that) it was important we started as we mean to go on and with a slightly larger pitch, the stage was set for a tasty encounter! It was a lively start from the home side, and it was quite evident the warm up was a success (and that the opposition wasn't taking note!) the opening goal came from a moment of brilliance from one of our midfield maestros. Ellyssia Crutchfield took advantage of the space given from the opposition and hit a beauty of a strike some 25 yards out, 1-0 to Netherton.

However, the lead only lasted 8 minutes, as a long ball bounced over the top of our defence which was collected and finished off calm and collectively. The home sides concentration was lost as 7 minutes later we were 2-1 down, it was clear half time was needed to clear a few things up and get us back on track...and we got the response we needed!

On the 45th minute Ellyssia popped up again, this time to assist her 'partner in crime' from a cross out wide, which Poppy despatched of in a way which can only be described as a thrust 3 yards out...but they all count! 2-2 game on! The rest of the game was quiet but evenly matched, it was evident to see a piece of individual brilliance or a mistake was to separate these two sides, and it was the former that won us the game! A free kick in our favour was awarded just outside the 18 yard box, and not satisfied with just the one goal and assist, Ellyssia, encouraged by the coaching staff to grab the ball, took charge of the situation and as practised some 5 minutes before kick off, dispatched it brilliantly and capped a man of the match performance! 3-2 game set and match! A brilliant performance all round and sets us up nicely for the reverse fixture this coming week.
